What is DDoS protection and why do you need it?
Attacks on game servers are cheap to launch and expensive to ignore. This is how layered filtering keeps your players online.

A DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack floods your server with fake traffic until real players can no longer connect.
Why game servers are a target
Competition between servers, rage after a ban, or simple boredom: attacks are cheap to buy and game servers are visible targets.
How layered protection works
- Network edge (L3/L4). Huge volumetric floods are absorbed before they reach the data centre.
- Protocol checks. Malformed and spoofed packets are dropped by stateful filters.
- Game-aware rules (L7). Traffic that does not behave like a real Minecraft client, such as fake handshakes or bot joins, is blocked.
What you should expect from a host
- Protection that is always on, not switched on after you are already offline.
- No extra fee for being attacked.
- Clear information in your panel when an attack is being filtered.
All KingOps plans include this protection by default.
